The Dakar is the biggest rally-raid in the world, but above all it is an unforgettable human adventure in which professionals and amateurs fulfil their dreams and accomplish one of the biggest challenges of their life.

Everyone can enter the Dakar; the only condition is to be at least 18-years of age. You do not need to be a rally-raid champion to take part. The goal of the Dakar is to have both professionals and amateurs participating in the same rally and on the same route. Only Bikes and Quads are subject to a selection. Candidates must be able to justify a first successful experience in Rally Raid. Find here all the selection criteria.

BEFORE THE RACE

Registration:

Registrations will be open June 15th, 2020.

The closing of entries for the bikes and quads is July 15th, 2020. The closing of entries for the cars, SXS and trucks is November 1st, 2020.

The entry includes: boat trips for the vehicles (from Europe to the host country and the return trip from the host country to Europe), the sports rights, medical assistance, meals provided in the bivouac, an insurance (click here for more information about insurance), GPS and safety equipment, the eco contribution, the visa fees and refuelling in the special stages (for bikes and quads only).

Procedures required / Mandatory documents to obtain:

This year, the organization decided to facilitate the obtention of your VISA, which fees are now included in your registration, by implementing a specific procedure. The information regarding how to proceed will be provided to you by email later on.

We strongly recommend you to hold personal medical insurance coupled with individual accidents guarantee. 

Optional insurance will be presented and proposed in the next months and their subscription is recommended to adapt your insurance program to the risks associated with your participation in the rally.

Transportation and accommodation:

The transportation of vehicles is done by ship from Europe to the host country as is the return trip from the host country to Europe.

You are responsible for the travel expenses, accommodation and meals for you and your team before the start.

DURING THE EVENT

The Dakar Competitors Department is at your disposal in the Competitors tent on the bivouac to answer at all your questions about rankings, withdrawn, customs, transportation…

Verifications:

You must present the following original documents (of current validity) on the day of the verifications:

  • A valid passport at least until 30/06/2021
  • Visas (depending on your nationality)
  • Authorization to compete on foreign soil for competitors not having French citizenship
  • A driver’s license corresponding to the category
  • An international FIM or FIA competitor license for the year 2021
  • Vehicle registration or loan authorization

Vehicles not passing the verifications will not be authorized to start the rally.

Health & Safety:

A staff of 60 health care professionals will be at your disposal during the evening in the bivouac (emergency physician, radiologist…)

Medical expenses and hospitalisation up to €30 000 with the authorization of the rally Medical Director will be covered by the organisers.

Sport / Logistics:

Any competitor or crew registered in the race, forced to retire (except for medical reasons) will be able to benefit from a unique Joker for the entire rally, allowing him to resume one time the start once he has recovered and repaired his vehicle. The competitor will reinstate the race in a separate ranking, the “DAKAR EXPERIENCE”. Find all the information regarding the terms and conditions of this joker here.

All accredited drivers (competitors and assistance) on the Dakar must sign a code of conduct, as a commitment to proper behavior, before the start of the event. Compliance with all driving laws in the various countries is an absolute necessity. The data recorded by the GPS’ are analysed in order to sanction infractions. Speed checks are also carried out by local police forces. On the road, all vehicles are required to have their headlights on.

Communication

Every day, the organization provides every pilots and crews with two photos and will carry out an interview at their arrival on the bivouac. This content may be used freely on their own social medias.

AFTER THE EVENT

The vehicles are repatriated by ship from the host country to Europe. The vehicles will be available for pick up during the month of February, 2021.

No vehicles, even if partially or totally destroyed, can be left in one of the Dakar countries after the event. For more information, refer to the article 52P1 of the car/truck regulations.

Every vehicle (race and assistance) that participated in the Dakar rally must unconditionally leave the country the same way it got in.
