RACE REGISTRATION FEES

Simplicity and clarity

Only one simple and unique race fee including the vehicle and the crew

Experience and loyalty is rewarded:

We created progressive race fees, distributed into 3 categories:

  • Regular: basic race fee
  • Experienced: race fee for loyal pilots (from 2 to 9 Dakar)
  • Legend: race fee for legendary pilots of the Dakar (more than 10 Dakar)

The number of participation are based on – and only on – the number of participation of the pilots of the vehicles. The number of participation can be cumulated in various categories (e.g.: a pilot who raced 5 times as a biker and 5 times as a car driver qualifies for the Legend category).
All the competitors must register under the basic fee. The price difference will be offered via a discount on the last payment (31st of October), after verification of the status of the pilots by the Dakar Competitors Service.

Competitors are Dakar’s ambassadors and they will be rewarded for it:

We believe in Thierry Sabine famous saying “the Dakar is a challenge for those who go, a dream for those who stay”. And we want you to help us to spread your stories and bring the dream to your local communities by creating two rewarding systems:

  • Patronage program:
Each experienced pilot can choose to endorse a Rookie. On top of sharing his/her experience and increasing his/her chance to reach the finish line, both of them are rewarded with a discount on the race fees. Your patronage request must be made before December, 1st, 2018.

The patronage program is based on – and only on – the pilots of the vehicles.
Both pilots must be registered and selected to participate to the Dakar on the same year.
This discount will be deducted from the last payment term (31 st of October).
A pilot can endorse a maximum of two Rookies. A Rookie can only be endorsed by one pilot.

  • Communication bonus:
All the race crews complying, before December, 1st, 2018, with the Competitors Communication Specifications will be rewarded with a bonus.

The Competitors Communication Specifications will be released each year prior to registration opening.
This discount will be deducted from the last payment term (31 st of October).

ASSISTANCE REGISTRATION FEES

Our idea here is to allow teams to lower their costs in equipment, fuel, human resources and vehicles, while keeping the overall registration fees stable.

Use of closed trailers:

As in 2018, we will then authorize closed trailers - under very strict conditions - behind all-terrain trucks and cars.

Use of deck trailers:

Deck trailers are expensive and complicated to ship abroad. We created a special fee for trailers which are not shipped to encourage teams to use as much as possible trailers from South America.

Use of 4x2 utility vans

This was a big demand from the small teams, as some camper vans are allowed anyway. We comply with this demand - under very strict conditions to make sure that everybody will be autonomous whatever are the conditions of the roads and the bivouacs.

Pricing of the Assistance vehicles

With the above changes, we expect a slight decrease in the number of registration of Assistance vehicles. In order to compensate, and still cover our costs, prices of Assistance vehicles will increase (particularly the biggest ones, which generate more logistic costs).

Pricing of the Assistance staff

Pricing of the Assistance staff will remain unchanged, as we do not want to encourage team to reduce their staffing, increase tiredness and endanger the event safety.

OTHER FEES

Special Assistance Cars

We have created in 2018 a new possibility: in-race assistance cars can now register in a new category with the same rules than the T4.3 (possibility to go off the route, and start again, out of the classification). This will ensure the teams that their cars will be able to assist their pilots until the last day.

For 2019, the fee has been dropped to make the category more accessible.

This category is only open to cars, not to side by side vehicles.
A vehicle registering in this category must declare the vehicles/team it assists and must carry the necessary equipment and spare parts to operate its assistance mission (verification will be conducted at the starts).
Vehicles be registered in this category before the 31st of October, no switch will be allowed during the event.
If a vehicle does not finish the stage one day, it will be off classification for the rest of the Dakar, start in last position every day and not be eligible to podium and final classification.
