2014! You have to go back 12 years, to the 2014 Dakar, to see four different leaders over the first four stages in the car category. At the time, they were the Portuguese driver Carlos Sousa (stage 1), the Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel (stage 2), the Spaniard Nani Roma (stage 3) and his compatriot Carlos Sainz (stage 4). This year, the four leaders are the Belgian Guillaume de Mévius (stage 1), the Qatari Nasser Al Attiyah (stage 2), the American Mitch Guthrie (stage 3), and the South African Henk Lategan (stage 4). Each is behind the wheel of a different vehicle: an X-raid Mini, a Dacia Sandrider, a Ford Raptor and a Toyota Hilux.
