“Nothing else to do but working on the car”

Tim Alfa and Tom Romeo Coronel are in it together, ever since their conception. Not just in the Dakar, but also in business. Whatever they do, motorsports is the centre of it. The family business has several companies: a kart centre, an indoor climbing wall, a gym, a social media company. They are pioneers in everything. Also in the Dakar they are not afraid of doing things differently. First with their own solo buggies, since 2018 with a two seater buggy they call The Beast. The car, powered by a 6,2 litres Chevrolet engine, was built by American Damen Jefferies to perform in Baja racing. The Coronel brothers -Tom likes the details, Tim the big picture- modified and improved it to Dakar standards. Like they did before, Tim and Tom will change roles when needed, but in general Tim will drive and Tom tries keeping up with the roadbook.

Tim Coronel: “Giving up is not in our dictionary, so we had to find other ways. Real life is no different to the Dakar… To be honest, the Corona crisis was not too bad for us. With all events cancelled, gyms closed, et cetera, all of a sudden we had time to think about other ways and alternatives, but also do some self reflection, instead of running around in high speed like we are used to. One alternative is that Tom has been travelling to his races throughout Europe, once they commenced, with a campervan instead of by plane. I think the most important and positive side of the corona crisis has been that solidarity and fellowship became even more visible and more important than ever, also in our team. There was not much else to do but working on our Dakar project. The result is that our team is better prepared than ever, the car has improved, is more reliable and better in every detail. We did change quite some things in the structure of our team, which will be Coronel Dakar Team again, as well as the colours of the car, thanks to new sponsors.”
