“Every day will be a new experience”
After supporting her dad and brother in the service truck at past Dakars, Anja Van Loon steps up to driving duties in 2023 partnered by Ukrainian co-driver Dmitry Tsyro . A Can-Am Maverick is their vehicle of choice and Anja has ten rallies under her belt in preparation, plus advice from partner Erik who is contesting his thirteenth Dakar. But the dunes of Saudi Arabia will still be a new experience.
A.V.L.: “I’ve experienced the Dakar four times in South America with my dad and brother driving the service truck, but this will be my first time in the race. It’s my dream. I’ve done as many rallies as possible to prepare, ten from Tunisia to Dubai, but I’ve never been to Saudi Arabia so every day will be a new experience.
“Eric, my partner, has been helping me a lot. He’s competing in a different vehicle so whenever I get back to the bivouac, he’s already looking through all the timing. We talk things through and discuss where I can improve. I’m enjoying it all so much. The Can-Am and team are so good!
