It is likely to be a special Dakar for Polish duo Maciej Domzala and Rafal Marton. While they are competing in the side-by-side (SxS) category at this year's rally, their sons Aron Domzala and Maciej Marton will be gunning for a place in the top 10 in the cars. Maciej admits that he is not punching in the same category as his son -a consistent performer at the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies in recent years- but he has nevertheless enjoyed some solid results on the offroad circuit, including a second place in Abu Dhabi in 2016. Maciej will also be able to make the most of Rafal's extensive experience; the latter has been involved in professional motorsport since the early 1990s, as a service manager, sporting coordinator and co-driver. With 10 Dakar participations under his belt already, Marton Sr's advice will be precious as the father-and-son duos look to make it safely through to the finish line in Lima.
MD: “I am true gentleman driver, but with some good results under my belt. A few years ago I was second at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. It was a fun adventure for me, but now the goal is to reach the finish line of Dakar. Peru was our first long-haul trip. I can remember nine-year-old Aron rolling down the sand dunes! Now we will have to pass them by. I think it's going to be a sentimental journey." RM: "It's rare for a father and son to compete in the same rally. Two fathers with two sons in Dakar is quite a sensation!"
