“I want to get a good result”

Undoubtedly one of Poland's most talented bike riders, Adam Tomiczek has had pretty mixed fortunes on the world's toughest rally. Underprepared for his debut in 2017, the 26-year-old was forced to abandon with illness and exhaustion two stages before the end; he was barely conscious when compatriot Pawel Stasiaczek found him in the scorching Argentine wilderness. That sobering experience gave Adam a much better idea of what to expect on the Dakar, although it also left him with something of a psychological barrier to overcome. His 2017 season went from bad to worse as he suffered a broken leg while testing in Morocco, which ruled him out of Dakar 2018. After working his way back to full fitness -both physically and mentally- the Orlen Team academy graduate lived up to his considerable potential at Dakar 2019, finishing in what he described as an "awesome" 16th place overall. However, another accident at Dakar 2020 forced him to abandon the rally for the second time in three participations. This time around, Adam says he will try to settle into a rhythm before kicking on in the second week. Like most of the top bikers, he has been unable to do much racing this year, although he did claim a solid 10th place at the Andalucia Rally. He is now ready for another Dakar outing alongside Orlen teammate and boyhood friend Maciej Giemza, and provided he can avoid any mishaps, the Cieszyn native could well end up achieving another top-20 finish.

"I want to get a good result at the upcoming Dakar, so I can put last year's unlucky edition behind me. Everything is fine in terms of health and fitness. I'm quite relaxed about my preparations. I want to slowly get used to the desert, and then fight to the best of my ability."
