CREW FACTS…

PS

  • For the last 40 years or so, Peter Schey has lived his passion for motorsports on the roads and paths of Australia. When the Dakar launched its Classic category the dream of competing in the world’s toughest rally that he would watch on TV, became reality.
  • The engineer from Melbourne has always competed with his brother Chris, and together they built a Nissan Terrano to take on the Dakar Classic in 2023. They managed to reach the finish of that first adventure in 28th spot.
  • After a two-year break and while their car remained in Europe, they’ve decided to return to once again live the thrills of the Dakar and enjoy the atmosphere of the bivouac in the company of passionate competitors like themselves.

CS

  • When it comes to motorsports, where there’s Peter, there’s Chris. The Schey brothers have for a long time shared that same passion for adrenalin and adventure.
  • But when he’s not in a car, Chris is a firefighter from Melbourne who also raises four children.
  • Watching the Dakar on SBS in Australia is what made him love the rally. And the creation of the Dakar Classic race is what made this keen sailor go for it. But first of all, the siblings had to build an adapted car and that too is a passion.
  • Chris loved it so much that he returns to Dakar Classic with his brother Pete as the driver. And the goal this time will be to better their 28th position of 2023.

AMBITION 2025

P.H.: “In late 2022, the Classic concept and cost made a life-long dream possible. The comradery, the sprit and the friendships we made with other teams and the on-event staff and organisers as well as the spectacular and challenging terrain is what seduced us and made us come back. The Dakar is a change to escape the everyday life and take on a motorsport challenge surrounded by similar minded friendly competitors. We hope to finish and improve on our 2023 result.”

C.S.: My brother Peter had always been thinking about the Dakar and we followed it each year on SBS TV in Australia, when Dakar Classic began it made entry accessible for us. With Dakar you experience a mind-blowing amount at once. I am coming back to see the like-minded rally and adventure enthusiasts who have become friends. It’s the challenge of competing in an endurance event through varying and tough conditions in a car that we built to see the amazing landscape of Saudi Arabia once again. The concept of Dakar is to issue a challenge to prepare a vehicle and yourself for a competition that is full of unknown obstacles and requires endurance to finish.  It’s an opportunity to use skills and knowledge gained as a career firefighter and mariner.”
