Interview

“My biggest challenge is always before the race”

Two decades after making his Dakar debut on two wheels, Luciano Carcheri will be starting his eleventh edition of the desert classic, for the fourth time on four-wheels and the third Dakar Classic, with a historic Isuzu Velocross. Luciano is competing in a vehicle of the type he is familiar with from his time contesting the Dakar on two wheels, with the added challenge of preparing the car himself. In 2022, Carcheri finished in the top ten for H3 and he is looking forward to going flat out in 2023. Alongside Carcheri will be experienced co-driver Giovanni Bernacchini who will make his Dakar debut after a strong preparation including five wins in the Middle East Rally Championship and a World Championship with Nasser Al Attiyah, himself no stranger to the Dakar!

L.C.: “My biggest challenge is always before the race, especially this year when I did all the car preparations myself. For me, racing these days is easier than it used to be, so everything will go well! The class structure for this year is improved with the changes in the categories, H1, H2, H3. There are more challenging routes and specifically with the car we will have a higher average speed and for me that is something very positive.”
