“This time around I'm fully prepared to complete the Dakar”
Abdullah Al Shatti endured disappointment on his maiden Dakar a year ago, as his rally was ended by mechanical gremlins on stage five. Undeterred, the Kuwaiti rider returns for this first edition in neighbouring Saudi Arabia confident that he has what it takes to go all the way. The 34-year-old has been steadily improving since being taken under Mohammed Balooshi's wing at the MX-Academy in Dubai, where he has been working as a riding instructor. Having spent several months training in the UAE and participating in local races in the Middle East, he is now ready for a second tilt at the world's toughest rally with the Duust Rally team.
“Last year, my bike got damaged in the last 10 kilometres of the fifth stage. I spent three hours trying to fix it but unfortunately it wasn't possible. This time around I'm fully prepared to complete the Dakar. I spent two months practising in the United Arab Emirates, and I've also taken part in three races in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan. Now I feel I have enough experience to finish Dakar 2020. Also, as a Kuwaiti rider, I have the advantage of being accustomed to riding over fine sand. My close friend Mohammed deserves all the credit for my rally raid education up until now! This will be my second rally with my dear friend. My work at the MX-Academy has helped to sharpen my talent and turn me into a genuine competitor.”

Al Shatti’s race is over
Abdullah Al Shatti will not reach the finish on his second Dakar. Whilst the Kuwaiti rider was withdrew last year after mechanical problems, this time a fall after 3 kilometres of the day’s special has put paid to his hopes. He was in 39th place in the general standings this morning.
