- On the start line of the next Dakar, Serge Lambert will be among the oldest competitors. But at 70 years of age, he still has the same enthusiasm and love for his sport.
- His first appearance on the Dakar was way back in 1987. Since then, the Frenchman has mainly been in an assistance trucks either in the race or alongside it.
- In more recent years, the mechanic-navigator from Valençay, has been part of the STA Competition team helping out Tariq Al Rammah and Samir Benbekhti. And it’ll again be the case in January.
- The quest for 2026 in his Volvo truck remains the same: to help out other crews.
Ambition

“It was following a meeting with Thierry Delli-Zotti, a driver and co-driver for Nissan-Toyota, during which we got on well, that he asked me to take part in this adventure. I had very strong mechanical knowledge, and that’s how it all began.
I first took part as part of the assistance team, in a truck, until 2000. Since then, I have competed as a driver or co-driver in an 800-horsepower MAN truck. For me, the Dakar is exhilarating; you meet an incredible number of people. Together, we created an assistance company: competitors rent our services, drivers and trucks. Our role is to stay as close as possible behind the race vehicles to assist them in case of problems, but also to repatriate all the vehicles of our team that must return to the bivouac each evening. Saudi Arabia is certainly the country where, in my opinion, the competition comes closest to the Dakar as it was in Africa.
My dearest wish is to be able to take part for many more years ».
