“I was thinking: There is still a chance for a miracle, wait for it and don’t give up”

J.B.
- Broz is a famous name in racing. On one hand, because Jiri is a renowned rider in the Czech Republic: he is a two-time national Supersport champion and a one-time Superbike runner up. On the other hand, because he led the Montaze Broz Racing Team that competed in the Moto2 world championship. As a Ducati enthusiast, he now has the Panigale V4R ridden by Alvaro Bautista in World Superbike in 2024.
- Jiri’s Dakar first memories date back to his childhood, from the photos and magazines he devoured. He was fascinated by the brave racers who ventured into the unknown, battling nature, machinery, and themselves. He dreamed that one day he would be there. Entering adulthood, he had to give priority to his professional activities. He made prosper his global company in installation of advanced racking system solutions, opening branches all over the world. Today, Montaze Broz has more than 800 employees.
- While he was developing his company, Jiri started riding for fun in the desert. His Dakar dream came back to him. He competed a few W2RC races to gain experience, and his ticket for the 2025 edition. But it was a nightmare in more ways than one. He broke his brake lever during Stage 5, had to repair it by borrowing one from another bike, but had his fuel stolen while he went to get it. He then injured a knee ligament in a heavy fall during Stage 7. On the eve of the finish, he was stuck for a long time due to a clutch problem. But each time, he did not give up, found solutions -what he calls "the miracle of the desert"- and managed to finish.
- Montaze Broz started as a family business, and Dakar is also a family passion. His son Josef did the Dakar Classic in 2024, won a stage and will participate again in 2026, as a navigator in a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5 V6. The father and son will be competing in their second Dakar Rally, but their first together in the bivouac!

J.B.: “The Dakar isn't just a fulfilled dream, it’s a proof that if you truly desire something and are willing to go after it, you can overcome anything. It’s a story of perseverance, the courage to face the unknown, and the never-ending search for our own boundaries. I have the impression that things are similar between racing and business: you need a target that you want to catch and you have to do your best to reach it. You have to follow your dreams, but at the same time you have to respect others and the world around you. Business is a calculated risk, just like racing. You carefully consider every step, prepare as much as you can and commit yourself completely.”
“I finished the 2025 edition, but all the very difficult things that happened overshadowed the positives. I ended up with a torn knee ligament. I was so happy to cross the finish line because I did everything I could, always thinking: ‘There is still a chance for a miracle, let’s wait for it and never give up.’ And that happened, like when Tobias Ebster arrived and gave me a clutch during Stage 11! It took me five months to recover well, and nine months to fully recover, so I hope this Dakar 2026 will be much easier for me. I don’t want to think about a position; my biggest goal is to finish the race and enjoy this year much more than last year.”
