Like father… like son-in-law
It is not uncommon to see situations where the passion for the Dakar is teached and passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes, a father enters the Dakar with his son. For Edwin Opstelten, this is not so far from the truth... It's not with his son that he'll be lining up for his first Dakar, but with his son-in-law. Like many drivers before him, Dutchman competitor -and Portugal-based- Opstelten began his career on two wheels in motocross, enduro and rally before switching to the SSVs in 2019. He first gained experience participating in a few races before getting his ticket for the toughest rally in the world.
E.O.: “We've trained on several bajas and rallies in Portugal, Tunisia and Morocco with Henry. My co-driver is my son-in-law, and I usually joke with him that he will be authorized to marry my daughter as soon as he’s a good navigator! Our first objective is just to reach the finish of our first Dakar.”
