“I hope it can help me get out of my coal mine”

RIDER FACTS…

  • When he’s not on a dirt bike, he’s in a coal mine working as an industrial mechanic. Jordan Strachan manages to mix passion and work, even working night shifts to be able to train and go on races. Raised in a family of bikers (his uncle used to ride 6 days), he became a pro on the Canadian scene before switching to hard enduro and now rallies.
  • The idea of competing in cross-country rallies was a way to discover the world but in the back of his mind there was always the Dakar. He started on rallies such as the Sonora Rally and the Baja Rally on his side of the globe. And when he got his acceptance letter for the big one, based on his dirt bike career and results on rallies, it was time to get fully committed.
  • For his first Dakar, the young man from Alberta will be riding a Kove bike and will have his own structure on the bivouac despite being able to go and see the Chinese factory team if necessary. In his words, he’ll be like a Kove satellite rider.
  • The ambition of the 31-year-old will obviously be to finish his first Dakar. He hopes for a hard and technical course because that’s where he can make a difference.

AMBITION 2025

J.S.: “I’ve been racing dirt bikes for all my life. In 2011, I was a pro in Canada and switched to hard enduro a year later. Eventually I switched to rallying to see the world ten years later. My first event was the Sonora Rally which I finished in 7th position. I broke my back there and had to take a year off.

I returned to the Baja Rally and did well there (1st in malle-moto) and applied for the Dakar. The goal was to be on the 2025 Dakar and when I got my acceptance letter, I was full on. I got organized and bought a Kove bike to have at home for training.

The ambition is to finish that first Dakar and try to do my best in the Rally 2 class but I have no experience so I’ll need to tone it down. I need to first figure out the Dakar before I come back to race it. I hope the course is as hard as possible because I feel better in the technical sections. I don’t have the speed of the top guys but on technical sections I can make up time.

The Dakar really consumes your whole year. I hope it can help me get out of my coal mine in the future.”
