Shareina has the makings of a champion
Strategy is a real factor in rally raids. The fear of getting stuck in a yo-yo dynamic is one of the things that keep elite riders awake at night, especially when the time comes to go all in for the title. Tosha Schareina, however, made a show of panache yesterday and today to claim back-to-back victories. Dakar riders who can win from the front of the field are few and far between....

Marathon-refuge format
Today is the first of the two "marathon-refuge" stages in the 2026 edition. Tonight, the field will spend the night in a bare-bones bivouac (with just a tent, a mattress, a down and a ration pack) all on their own, without service crews. This means they'll have to take care of any necessary repairs and will not have their usual stock of parts. There will be separate bivouacs...
Split courses for cars and motorbikes
Following a 64 km road section, the FIM riders will dive into a 417 km special, while the FIA cars and trucks are in for a tougher 452 km haul. This is because the two fields are not tackling the same course. The idea is to get the FIA crews back to the bivouac earlier. Furthermore, with no motorbike tracks to follow, the cars will have to navigate on their...
Full steam ahead to the marathon bivouac
Welcome to live coverage of stage 4 of the 2026 Dakar. Things are heating up today with the start of the first part of the marathon stage, featuring split courses for FIA vehicles and FIM riders. Tosha Schareina will be the first rider off the line at 7:30. In the car category, the honours go to Mitch Guthrie, who scooped up his maiden Ultimate win yesterday and will...
ALULA > ALULA (MARATHON)
The drivers and navigators are not yet finished with the splendour of the AlUla landscapes, but will be primarily concerned with managing their vehicles as they head off on this first leg of the marathon. Although the route mostly runs through wide open spaces, the zigzags between the hills will require frequent changes in pace. At the finish, two nearby but separate bivouacs will accommodate riders on one side and the FIA crews on the other. Mutual assistance among competitors is permitted without time limits. The campsite is bare-bones: a bonfire, tents, and ration packs!
