Next January, competitors will discover a new venue set against the skyline of King Abdullah Economic City. The short special, a cocktail of white sand tracks and trickier sectors on rock-strewn soil, will provide an early snapshot of the hierarchy. Differences will possibly be measured in seconds, but the favourites will already face their first strategic conundrum at the start order selection.
