“The good old Unimog has no problems to beat the tracks”
Although he now will be participating the ‘Dakar classic’ for the first time, Kornelis Offringa is certainly no Dakar-rooky! Kornelis knows all about the meaning and importance of fast assistance. He joined the Dakar rally for the first time in 2009 as a mechanic. Since 2010 he drove his good old Unimog as fast assistance, to support other competitors in the rally, always safely at the finish.
K.O.: “It is so nice to call my Unimog a classic, that’s exactly what the Unimog is. Just like all my previous Dakar’s the main task is to stay in the rally so we can help and give assistance to the three classic cars from de Paauw Rally Team. As a fast assistance vehicle normally, we start as one of the last competitors and must remain in the back. The stages are completely ruined when we are driving at the track, it is hard but the good old Unimog has no problems to beat the tracks. The Dakar to me, is the ultimate battle from man with nature and machine. You have to be a bit weird to be fast assistance cause you’re doing a triple Dakar rally, but I really enjoy it this way! I always have managed to finish the Dakar. Preparing the Unimog went very well. She’s doing well and I… well I’m still in love with the Unimog!
Dakar 2022 my co-pilot and navigator will be Miranda van Middendorp, she’s a very driven person and a terrific mechanic and IWT. Miranda worked so hard for the whole team and she did a very good job. I hope she will have a great Dakar, she deserves it!”
M.v.M.: “2012 was the first year I participated the Dakar rally as a service truck-driver, mechanic and welder. It was a tough rally but a really beautiful experience. Finally, 10 years later I get the possibility to be a co-driver in the fast assistance truck from Kornelis!”
