“It's a great honour to be part of the Orlen Team”

Kamil Wisniewski has been going from strength to strength in the quads in recent years, and could well be pushing for a top-five finish at Dakar 2020. The talented Polish rider made his debut three years ago, having already won the FIM Bajas World Cup in 2013 and 2014. With the help of teammate and mentor Rafal Sonik, he claimed an impressive 10th place in 2017, but an error on the first stage in 2018 cost him precious time in penalties, and he admitted he "wasn't satisfied" to come home in 13th position. Things went far more smoothly in Peru last year as the 37-year-old picked up his best result to date, an excellent 6th place. That promising ride, coupled with a podium finish behind former Dakar winners Ignacio Casale and Sonik in Morocco, has earned Kamil his dream move to the Orlen Team. The highly rated Polish outfit is home to some of the Dakar's top performers: 2018 FIA Cross-Country World Cup winner Jakub Przygonski and elite bikers Adam Tomiczek and Maciej Giemza, not to mention Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica. With the support of Orlen and a new rear-wheel drive Yamaha Raptor 700, Kamil will be looking to make this his best Dakar yet on the unknown playing field that is Saudi Arabia.

“I'm very lucky, it's a great honour for me to be part of the Orlen Team. Since I started my adventure with quads I have always wanted to appear in the colours of Orlen. As you can see, hard work and motivation to fight bring results. Last year's sixth place was my best result. Like every Dakar, it was a great challenge and adventure for me. This year I'm riding a rear-wheel quad for the first time, so it's a new experience for me. The quad is faster but requires more preparation, so I haven't done too many kilometres. But after the Rallye du Maroc I'm feeling positive, because I was on the podium just behind former Dakar winners Rafal Sonik and Ignacio Casale. I think it bodes well for the rally. I have a very good relationship with the other Polish riders, we all support each other. There is healthy competition between us. And I'm very happy that we will be able to check out a new, unknown area in Saudi Arabia."
