“The Dakar made me fall in love with this sport”

- Yi Guanghui will be making his Dakar debut in 2026 for the Segway Team, who have entered three electric bikes in the Mission 1000 class for sustainable vehicles. Yi will be riding alongside fellow Chinese competitor Jie Yang and Benjamin Pascual of Argentina.
- The 28-year-old is a self-taught rider who says he is “driven purely by passion”. Inspired by the Dakar, he began riding at the of 19, and since 2019 he has taken part in off-road races across China, South Korea and Thailand.
- Yi is a talented rider who has already taken class wins at events like the China DHD Rally Championship, which was won by Kove factory rider Neels Theric in 2025.

Y.G.: “The Dakar is actually what made me fall in love with this sport, in around 2017. In China, I often ride in Dakar-style terrain, and I've blended precise enduro trail-riding techniques with my rally training. I'm super excited to be doing my first Dakar this year. It really feels like a dream finally coming true. I’ve been riding the electric bike for almost a year now. The biggest difference is that it feels smoother and lighter than a petrol bike. My main ambition for Dakar 2026 is to finish safely. With that as a base, I’ll push for the best result I can.”
