STAT OF THE DAY: 5 OUT OF 5
The stage rankings at the finish in AlUla have made history on the Dakar because five vehicles made by the same constructor occupy the first five places on the special, with victory behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux T1+ going to Seth Quintero, followed by Henk Lategan, Yazeed Al Rajhi, Toby Price and Joao Ferreira.
Such a top 5 has not occurred since the 2007 edition (Lisbon – Dakar) on the first stage raced over 83 kilometres between Lisbon and Portimao, when five Volkswagen Touaregs dominated the day:
1. Carlos Sousa
2. Giniel De Villiers
3. Carlos Sainz
4. Ari Vatanen
5. Mark Miller
Before that, there is only one other trace of such a festival in the 21st century, accomplished by Mitsubishi on 6th January 2000 for the first stage of the Dakar – Cairo rally, on the stage between Dakar and Tambacounda (covering 284 km):
1. Carlos Sousa
2. Kenjiro Shinozuka
3. Hiroshi Masuoka
4. Jean-Pierre Fontenay
5. Miguel Prieto
