PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY: GUERREIRO OPENS HIS ACCOUNT
Gonçalo Guerreiro left his mark on the rally on his first appearance last year with a 2nd place finish in the SSV category for the Red Bull Off-Road Junior team, a performance achieved without a stage victory. The young Portuguese rider took advantage of the following months to win his overall national championship ahead of all the T1+ vehicles in the field, behind the wheel of a Polaris produced by his father’s workshops, whose job it is.
For the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, Nasser Al Attiyah entrusted him with one of his SSVs, which he drove to victory in the category, as well as 6th overall place behind the stars of the W2RC. Today, Guerreiro wrote his name on the Dakar roll of honour for the first time, participating in the 1-2-3 finish for the team backed by Sébastien Loeb and the American factory, with the help of Florent Vayssade and Xavier de Soultrait.
In the general rankings, Gonçalo already finds himself in the same final position as last year, 1’47’’ behind “XdS” and the other official Polaris driven by Brock Heger.
