RALLY GP | "QUINTY" IN SEVENTH HEAVEN

Pablo Quintanilla crossed the finish line with the fastest time and claimed his seventh Dakar stage win. Coming the day after the eighth triumph of his teammate Nacho Cornejo, this is the second Chilean victory in a row. Cornejo also took stage 2, bringing the Chileans' tally this year to three.

QUAD | THREE-PEAT FOR MEDEIROS

Marcelo Medeiros reclaimed the spotlight by clocking the best time amid the dunes of stage 5. After struggling in the past couple of stages, he bounced back today, finishing a solid 1'21" ahead of the back-to-back reigning champion, Alexandre Giroud, and 2'26" over yesterday's victor, Manuel Andújar. There is no seismic shift in the overall standings, as Andújar still leads the pack by more than 20 seconds over Giroud and 21 over Medeiros. It looks like the ultimate showdown is shaping up among these three riders.

RALLY 2 | MINI KINI WINS IN RALLY 2

Tobias Ebster, leading the Original by Motul class, clinched his maiden Rally 2 win today. The Austrian clocked the tenth-fastest time, edging out Romain Dumontier by just 32 seconds in the special. Kini's nephew had already showcased his prowess in the dunes, topping his class in the 2023 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Tobias won the Road to Dakar challenge there, earning his ticket to the Dakar.

ULTIMATE | AL ATTIYAH OPENS HIS ACCOUNT WITH PRODRIVE

Nasser Al Attiyah is home and dry. The Qatari refrained from the strategic games of his rivals and set the fastest time of the day, almost 2 minutes ahead of Guerlain Chicherit. It is Al Attiyah's first win behind the wheel of a Prodrive Hunter, bringing the number of constructors with which he has won at least one Dakar stage to 7. He is now level with the likes of Stéphane Peterhansel (who has 8 counting his career as a biker).

ULTIMATE | LOPEZ COMES OUT ON TOP

"Chaleco" López has picked up his first stage win in this Dakar. The Chilean was the fastest bar none in the dunes, clocking the fastest time with over 2 minutes to spare over Austin Jones and Eryk Goczał. The Pole finished on the podium and retained the overall lead, now with more than 34 minutes in hand over his uncle Michał, who lost 4′36″ today.

SSV | DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR DE SOULTRAIT

Xavier de Soultrait trailed Yasir Seaidan by just 3 seconds at km 80 and surged to overtake the Saudi at the end and claim his second stage win in this Dakar. The Frenchman had lost 45 minutes due to a broken gearbox in stage 3, but he had also warned that the Dakar was "still very long"… He may have surpassed his own expectations, as he is now in sixth place overall, 22 minutes from the new leader, Jérôme de Sadeleer.

TRUCKS | MACIK WINS STAGE 5

Martin Macík romped home with the fastest time in the special, 1′22″ ahead of Mitchel van den Brink. This is his second win in this Dakar, following his triumph in stage 3. The Czech driver capitalised on Aleš Loprais and Janus van Kasteren's troubles to surge to second overall, 22 minutes down.
