The Spaniard is now fourth overall, just 1′48″ shy of the podium. Meanwhile, his teammate Pablo Quintanilla, second at 4′15″, is within striking distance of Van Beveren.

"I started fifth and ran into some navigation trouble. It was tough and I got lost twice, but I tried to push as hard as possible. The guys in front are really fast, it's going to be difficult to keep moving up. I hope to gain some time. I still rue losing 40 minutes on the first day. I'm still focused. We have two stages to go, and we need to avoid losing time. Pablo is also well placed. We want to win this thing for Honda for sure."
