The Lithuanian, seventh in his Dakar debut in 2021, laid down a marker in the fight for the title by winning his first special and moving into the overall lead.

"It was a good stage for me… I was fast. Before the start, I was gunning for fifth, but I ended up first. It's amazing. I'm not thinking of tomorrow. I'll just head to the bivouac and take things easy. No stress."
