With a second stage victory and taking advantage of Alexandre Giroud withdrawing, Giovanni Enrico has climbed into second place in the general standings.

“It was a very long stage and a very, very hard stage. At the beginning there was a lot of dust. I was always in it, just like the two stages before. The part with the dunes was very, very nice, though with a lot of rocks in there. But I’m happy to be here. It was important to finish this stage. I’ll get changed now and tomorrow we’ll finish it. I think the gap that there is with Manu is very big, so just finishing is my goal. It’s so bad for Alexandre, but that’s the Dakar… The machine is important and the rider is important, so it’s just bad luck for him and he’ll wait until the next year. It was definitely the most difficult Dakar in all aspects”.
