Rafał Sonik started his eleventh Dakar with a solid second place, four minutes behind Ignacio Casale.

"Just a pleasant day. 320 km for the first stage. We have a lot of liaison to do now. It was very mixed, with sand, some dunes, then a little bit of rocks… Some rocks were nasty, so I had to be very careful not to crash and destroy the tyres. You have to trust the road book to push. A very good stage. I liked it."
