"We just can't seem to catch a break"

January 14 th 2019 - 22:20 [GMT -5]

Cyril Despres finished stage 7 in fifth place, 12'50" behind Stéphane Peterhansel. The Mini driver is struggling to move up the general classification and now sits 1 h 20 behind Nasser Al-Attiyah.

"Everything came together to make today's stage difficult. Sand, tough dunes and, as if it wasn't enough, a storm. We just can't seem to catch a break. We were setting a high pace with Stéphane, Nani and Nasser when due to bad luck we slipped on a dune and a tyre came off the rim. Changing a wheel on soft sand isn't easy. Then we spent some time getting lost, as usual. We moved up one place, but we are not very confident in our skills. These failures are part and parcel of rally raids."
