Van Beveren is back in the lead after a solid performance that put him second in the stage after Joan Barreda. A duel with Kevin Benavides is taking shape…

"I want to give it my best shot every day, and it's working so far. I try to ride smart and avoid any falls. I managed to open up a gap, which is great. You absolutely have to avoid falls during the marathon stage because the mechanics won't be there to help you out. Finally, this was a stage for pushing hard. Technical courses are right up my alley because my bike is very easy to handle. It feels great to be leading the Dakar. I'll try to keep it up because I've got good sensations on my bike."
