A welcome day to recover

Dakar 2018 | Stage 11 | Belén > Fiambalá / Chilecito
January 17 th 2018 - 16:18 [GMT -3]

Riders in the Dakar want to race. No matter what. But for the malle moto riders the cancellation of stage 9 was a welcome news. After the two days marathon stage they were looking forward to a good night’s rest in Tupiza and the extra 500 kms to Salta was quite a lot. The three Dutch malle moto competitors Jurgen van den Goorbergh, Hans-Jos Liefhebber and Edwin Straver made the most out of it. They spend the night in a hotel just across the Argentinean border and made their way to Salta in the morning. There they had time to look after their bikes that needed big maintenance after two long days. “I had some damage to my bike after stage 7 but only now I can fix it”, Jurgen van den Goorbergh says. “We have to do everything ourselves, without the help of mechanics, which means that everything takes time. Thanks to the cancellation I had the time to repair the front shocks and some other things. The night at the hotel was good. We had great fun, and good night’s rest.”
