Carlos Sousa: "As nervous as a rookie"

The Portuguese driver who finished fourth in the 2003 Dakar is back after missing last year's edition. Together with his co-driver Pascal Maimon, who won the rally with Masuoka in 2002, the crew has almost 45 Dakar starts under its belt!

"I thought my career was over, but two months before the race I got a call from Renault's Argentinian structure asking me to join their team. I hesitated because it'll be very hard to get back into competition. I'll be very nervous during the first few stages, a bit like a rookie, even though this is my 18th Dakar! The car is relatively new, so we're very prudent about our prospects. Finishing in or near the top 10 would be nice. We'll probably need the big teams to make mistakes if we are to achieve this."
