After finishing as runner-up to Sanders on the Dakar and on completion of the W2RC season which he finished in Morocco by bringing the Australian’s uninterrupted series of victories since January to a close, Schareina has been the Honda rider who as enjoyed the most limelight for the red squadron, as well as being its ‘greenest’ as well.
"People ask me about pressure but all that I can say is that I really wanted this pressure before. It’s a privileged situation for me. Everyone is looking to us for the victory. I like this pressure and I really like being in this situation. We have been preparing for the Dakar all year, so we are motivated and ready. I’m learning every single second with all my team-mates, my rivals, with the team, in each race and after my crashes as well. I’m learning all the time but, for sure, I have more experience than last year, so we will go for it. The marathon stages are the same for everybody; we all have to do it. It doesn’t affect my mentality, even if nobody likes sleeping in a tent. It’s just part of the game and it’s the same for everybody. Last year, we had two marathon stages, one in the first week and another in the second, so I think that change can help for everybody and there will be less tiredness at the beginning of the second week. We will see: it’s a new adventure, a new Dakar and a new challenge”.
