With a fifth placed finish on stage six, Van Kasteren regained a small amount of time on Loprais and Macík. The Dutch driver is discretely harbouring hopes of a podium finish.

“The stage today was really perfect. We passed Macík who has just finished. Everything went well. We went full throttle, but the Kamaz were just too fast for us. The suspension is much better, but we still have problems with the rear suspension which is a little bit too soft. But apart from that, it was a perfect day and a perfect week. The country of Saudi Arabia surprised me. It has very nice tracks and good stages. Navigation and the road-book is good, perfect. I’m satisfied with the first week so now we can get to grips with the next week. I will try to pass Loprais and Macík and I hope that somewhere the Kamaz and Maz trucks will have problems so that we can pass them too. Top 5 would be perfect, it will be good”.
