Although he had been hot on the heels of Nasser Al-Attiyah since the start of the day, Stéphane Peterhansel made a mistake thirty kilometres from the finish and as a result he lost 24 minutes to the rally leader. At the half-way point, the Mini driver occupies second place in the general standings, 26 minutes behind Al-Attiyah.

“A good day, apart from 40 km from the finish when we got stuck on the fesh-fesh. It was fesh-fesh like powder, like powdery snow. Just one metre out and the car was completely stuck. Even using the plates it wasn’t possible to move the car. So, we waited for Nani [Roma] and he pulled us out. Afterwards we restarted but it was a big mistake on my side".
