Toby Price: “All in all, it’s not been a bad stage”

Dakar 2023 | Stage 5 | AL-HOFUF > SHUBAYTAH
January 5 th 2023 - 15:35 [GMT + 3]

Another top five finish for Toby Price on completion of the second loop around Ha’il. Despite a small navigation error at the start of the special and a fright in the last few kilometres when Barreda fell in front of him, the Australian is still in the reckoning for overall victory.

“It was a tough stage. We got lost a little bit this morning. We lost a little bit more time there. Barreda had a crash in front of us and I ended up hitting him, more his bike… I’m not sure, I pretty much shut my eyes. So we stopped for him for about five or six minutes and made sure he was all good, then he continued on. All in all, it’s not been a bad stage. I don’t think we’ve lost so much time. There’s still plenty more racing to go yet. We’ll just get back to the bivouac, have a look at this shoulder and get it all sorted for the next day. Joan crashed right in front of me and I hit him or the bike, so it was a big one. He’s here at the finish and he continued on, but he was on the ground for a little bit, so we stopped for him for about five or six minutes. But all in all, should be good to go.
