The Russian rider, last year’s winner, was left trailing in the wake of Ignacio Casale on the day’s stage.
“I lost 30 minutes because I lost my Iritrack and I had to go back for it. So I had to ride about 20 kilometres extra and before that I was trying to repair a technical problem. We’ll keep going. It’s the Dakar: anything can happen and it’s ok. We have a whole race in front of us. I will keep pushing and keep fighting – that’s not a problem for me. Nobody is insured against problems. Today I had a problem but tomorrow he [Casale] might have a problem, or anybody else. Anything can happen and I’m not disappointed. We will prepare and now we know that the silencer blocks on the Iritrack are a problem. We will replace it with better ones, I think. We will keep fighting Casale”.
