There is only one stage left to calmly cover for Alexandre Giroud before he can savour the title that is within his grasp: he boasts a lead of 2 hours and 41 minutes over Argentinean Francisco Moreno, his nearest pursuer in the general rankings.

“What I have to do now is bring the machine to the finish and especially avoid making any mistakes. Today, I was listening to the machine, to make sure the engine is okay to reach the end. On the Dakar, you talk to your machine a lot, even from the first day… but it doesn’t answer back! It means a lot because no French rider has managed to win the quad category since it was created and what’s more, my father was the first to finish the Dakar on a quad 25 years ago”.
