Austin Jones was fifth to finish on stage 11, taking advantage of the misfortune suffered by Guillaume de Mevius to comfortably take over the lead in the general rankings of the T3 category. The American now boasts an advantage of almost one hour over his nearest pursuer, his countryman and team-mate Seth Quintero.

“Definitely a good day for me. I didn’t know any of the results, but just now they’ve told me I’m in place number one, so I’m happy about that, for sure, it’s a good thing. That’s the kind of racing that we do, especially on the Dakar, everything changes fast. Anything can happen in these three days, but for now we’re in a good spot, so I’m happy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong. We’re going to look it over and make sure that everything is one hundred per cent, but I don’t really think we have anything to fix, so I think it’s good. The strategy for the next three days is just to keep it moving and try not to have any big problems. We can lose a couple of minutes here and there, I think. I have to look at the times and calculate. We can lose a couple of minutes here and there, but we really need no big problems and we’ll be alright”.
