MOTOS | KEVIN BENAVIDES PROJECTED TO TAKE THE SPECIAL AS PRICE DEFENDS THE OVERALL LEAD
When it's not one Benavides, it's the other! Luciano, originally given the fastest time at the finish, has received a one-minute penalty for speeding. His brother Kevin, who rushed to Matthias Walkner's aid near the start of the special, is expected to get 23′10″ back following his request from the FIM when he reaches the bivouac. That would make Kevin the winner of the stage by 30″ over Docherty, 2′08″ over Van Beveren and 2′31″ over Price. Assuming that he gets that time deduction and is not slapped with a road section penalty on his way to the bivouac, Kevin Benavides is set to move up to second place overall, 12″ behind Price and 1′43″ ahead of Skyler Howes!
QUADS | MEDEIROS MAKES IT FOUR!
Marcelo Medeiros grabbed his fourth stage win in a row. The Brazilian, who started in first place, beat Giovanni Enrico by 1′35″ after controlling the special from A to Z and maintaining a healthy lead over his chasers throughout the stage. Francisco Moreno Flores, third on the day, gained just over 3 minutes on Alexandre Giroud, still ensconced in the overall lead.
AUTOS | SIX AND COUNTING FOR LOEB!
He did it! Sébastien Loeb has picked up his sixth stage win in a row, an unprecedented feat in the Dakar, bringing his tally in this edition to seven. Carlos Sainz was the last competitor to land such a massive haul back in 2011. The Frenchman and his co-driver, Fabian Lurquin, stamped their authority on the special.
SSV | ERYK GOCZAŁ LEAPS CLOSER TO BACIUŠKA WITH STAGE WIN
Eryk Goczał clocked the fastest time in the special to pocket his fourth stage win in the 45th Dakar, slashing his deficit to Rokas Baciuška in the general standings by 4′19″ to just over three minutes. Sparks will fly in the final 136 km to Dammam.
LW PROTOTYPES | FABULOUS FIVE FOR GUTHRIE
After a strong performance that put him in the lead at km 114, Hélder Rodrigues ran out of steam in the last section and finished the special about 15 minutes behind Mitch Guthrie. The American claimed his fifth stage win in this Dakar by 50 seconds over Ignacio Casale and 57 over Seth Quintero. Austin Jones conceded 10 minutes on Quintero in the battle for the overall, but he remains over 54 minutes clear of his countryman going into the finale.
TRUCKS | MACÍK IS THE WINNER
Martin Macík claimed his fifth triumph in this Dakar, beating Janus van Kasteren by nearly 3'30" and Jaroslav Valtr by over 10 minutes. Martin van Brink's bad luck should catapult Macík to second place overall, albeit 1 h 16 behind Van Kasteren.
