BIKES | ROSS BRANCH SCORES A BRACE
Ross Branch started the special in 28th place and quietly posted the fastest time at each checkpoint. In the end, he won the stage by 21 seconds over Van Beveren, adding a second victory to his tally in this Dakar and landing Hero MotoSports its third stage win ever. It will have little impact on the standings, as a slew of mechanicals in the early part of the race knocked the Botswanan out of contention for the title. Docherty came in third, 30" back, with Kevin Benavides at 1 minute.
The Argentinian 2021 Dakar champion moved into the overall lead, with the former leader, Skyler Howes, 1'29" back and Toby Price 2'10" down. The fight for the podium is still very close, with VBA at 9'52" in fourth place and Quintanilla and Klein about 15 minutes back in fifth and sixth.
QUADS | MEDEIROS NABS IT
Marcelo Medeiros did it! The Brazilian set the fastest time at the first checkpoint and never looked back. Manuel Andújar came in second, just over a minute down, while Alexandre Giroud finished fifth, about 5'30" behind Medeiro. The Frenchman lost under 2' to Francisco Moreno Flores, his main rival in the general standings, who still trails him by over 1 h 17.
CARS | THREE IN A ROW FOR LOEB
Sébastien Loeb won again today. The BRX driver set the fastest time by just over 3 minutes over Mattias Ekström, clawing just under 6 minutes back from Nasser Al Attiyah, still ensconced at the top of the leader board, and coming within 16 minutes of Lucas Moraes, second overall and third today.
LW PROTOTYPES | QUINTERO RAMS IT HOME!
Ignacio Casale, 7" ahead at km 84, proved unable to withstand Seth Quintero's last-minute effort. The American claimed his second stage win in the 45th Dakar by 37" over the Chilean and almost 3 minutes over Hélder Rodrigues. Ricardo Porem placed a second Yamaha prototype in the top 4.
SSV | FARRÉS WINS STAGE 10
Gerard Farrés, the runner-up to Austin Jones in the SSV race last year, is one of the favourites to win the title this time round and has just grabbed his first stage win of the year. The Spaniard was 55" faster than Marek Goczał. Eryk Goczał finished third, just over a minute down. The Pole gained 1'22" on the overall lead, Rokas Baciuška, fourth today.
