Mounting advices Unik² GPS-Sentinel Car/ SSV / Truck

Bracket :

Dimensions: 180 x 155 x 24mm

The mechanical assembly shall be flexible and integrate the 4 provided silent blocks to absorb vibrations.

GPS fixing through the bottom and binding by 2 auto-blocking screws assembled on the GPS.


Minimal dimensions to apply for the bracket installation:

For connectors, leave at least 4cm of free space.

If 2 GPS are close installed, leave at least 9cm between axes.



Power supply:

The power supply will have to be protected by a minimal fuse of 3A and to deliver a controlled tension ranging between 9 and 24 continuous volts.

The main circuit breaker of the vehicle has to act on the positive but the GPS must be directly connected.

Sentinel Alarm button (red):

The driver and the codriver must be both able to activate the Alarm Sentinel.
Alarm button is connected on the power supply cable (3 points connector).
The button must be accessible for both crew members.



Sentinel push-button (yellow) :

Push-button is connected on the power supply cable (2 points connector).



Buzzer Sentinel : 

Buzzer is connected on the top of the GPS.
An optional flash is directly connected to buzzer.





Sentinel aerial :

Sentinel aerial cable is connected on the right top of the GPS (blue sheath with « SENT ERTF » inscription). The connector is spotted by a blue point.

Stick aerial

Installation with the 2 collier straps and braces given (COMPULSORY) on the vertical roll bar on the right side, in the top and the nearest of the windshield

/!\ IMPORTANT : L’antenne radio Sentinel doit voir la route et doit être écartée d’au moins 2cm de toute surface (pas de montage contre le tableau de bord).

Soft aerial

The aerial must be fixed vertically on the right side of the windshield in the top, at more than 5cm from any metallic parts.

/!\ IMPORTANT: the Sentinel aerial must “see” the road (no installation near metallic parts, only stick it on the glass).



GPS cable antenna (3m) :

GPS cable antenna is connected on the right bottom side of the GPS.

A TNC type connector must be placed under the car aerial, which is fixed with an M18 wing (do not forget to make a 20 mm-hole on the roof for the connector).

If you mount two GPS in the same vehicle, let at least 1m between the two aerials.

GPS activation

The bell : satellites non-reception indicator.
Appears during a few minutes at the power on.
If it still appears, check if the antenna and its cable are connected and not damaged.

4 digit code given during the briefing and displayed every evening at the bivouac.
Load the wpt for the next leg.
To enter the code:

  • push on the COD key
  • press CD 1
  • enter the code with blue arrows

Screen when inside the unmasked radius or visible waypoint (WPV) :

COG: Course followed by vehicle

CTW: Direct course to the Wpt

The arrow: indicates the direction to the target waypoint.

Direct distance to waypoint in km 

Information concerning WPM (masked waypoints) when outside unmasked radius:

Name of the next waypoint

COG: Course followed 

A waypoint is reached when the vehicle is in the radius defined for the wpt ( 200m or 90m). The GPS switches automatically to the next waypoint.

 

Change of a waypoint

If a Wpt can’t be reached or if you don’t want to reach it, press NXT on the principal screen.

W+ : to go to the next waypoint

W- : to come back to the previous waypoint

Give more importance the waypoint’s name than to its number.

Speed limit :

Symbol V :

  • GPS checks the max speed
  • blinks and rings, and records if overspeed

Symbol "Attention" (DZ) :

  • GPS checks the speed in the village (30,50 or 90 km/h) 
  • blinks and rings if overspeed. It stops when the wpt FZ is passed.

Using it is penelized.

To turn masked wpts into visible wpts and give access to all navigation information concerning these wpts Press COD and then WPM 


Odometer function ODO and OD+

Reset PARTIAL to 0 with RST.

Adjust TOTAL by + and -.

RST : Reset PARTIAL to 0

Direct adjust of hundreds meters of TOTAL 

Automatic adjust at each Wpt, message « Adjust OK ».
