“I've been dreaming about doing the Dakar since I was very young”

Though he was born in Duisburg to German parents, Sebastian Bühler has spent nearly all of his life in Portugal. The 24-year-old first got on a motorbike at the age of five and soon emerged as one of his adopted country's most talented young riders, winning a host of national championships after his breakout season in 2013. Sebastian has fond memories of the Dakar coming to Lisbon when he was a boy (in 2006 and 2007), and says he was always determined to take part in the world's most famous rally. A multiple Portuguese TT1 champion, he recently began to develop a taste for offroad racing, putting in solid performances at the Merzouga and Panafrica Rallies. Despite an injury, this year has been particularly successful for Sebastian, who won the Troféu Yamaha, the X-Trophy Resistência Todo Terreno, Baja TT Idanha-a-Nova and Baja Portalegre; the latter was particularly satisfying, after he suffered a crash there in 2017. With the support of the Bühler Racing Team, he is now looking forward to fulfilling a childhood dream by taking part in his first Dakar -and his only ambition is to reach the finish line in Lima.

"I've lived in Portugal all my life. My parents came here for a holiday and liked it so much that they stayed! I've been dreaming about doing the Dakar since I was very young. I started riding at the age of five, and always used to watch when the Dakar came to Portugal, to Lisbon. I'm feeling good. Everything is prepared, now it's just training, training, training. I simply want to take it day by day and get to the finish line. I'm hoping to pick up as much experience as possible.”
