“Our first objective is to get that finishers medal”
Gunter Hinkelmann might be kept very busy with his international shipping business but he still finds time to enter pretty much every off-road race going in Brazil. That includes, the Mitsubishi Cup, the Brazilian Cross Country Championship and of course South America’s biggest off-road race the Rally dos Sertoes which he raced this year aboard a T1 X Rally Team-built Ford Ranger V8 4x4. However he’d never raced in sand before until he was persuaded to venture over to Argentina to race the South American Rally Race that runs over much of the route of the old South American Dakar. Bitten by the bug it wasn’t long before he was sending off his entry to the 2024 Dakar, opting to race in the T3 class aboard a MCE5 built Taurus run by Team BBR. His partner in crime is his larger than life navigator Fabrizio Bianchini, who like many of his fellow co-drivers started their racing career on two wheels – including the very first South Amarican Dakar way back in 2009!
