“The important thing is to enjoy it”
Gad Nachmani has been dreaming of the Dakar since he was 10 years old -but has been building up to it gradually. He started riding off-road at 16 and competing in small local rallies in his early twenties. Then three years ago this building company manager decided it was time to start building up to the big one. He began gently with the Andalucia Rally in 2021 and followed that up with a Morocco Desert Challenge and three Rallye du Maroc. And now he reckons he’s ready to tackle the dunes of the Empty Quarter.
“The three Rallye du Maroc I did were hard -people said they were like mini Dakars. But I really liked the fact that they were difficult, that you had to push yourself, concentrate on the navigation. Of course it isn’t just the time you are away on the rallies. It is also the training that you have to do all year. I have a wife and three children and if I’m training I’m not with them! My children think it is cool that I’m doing the Dakar and fortunately my wife is supportive. As far as my result is concerned I don’t think Toby Price has anything to worry about! The important thing is to stay humble and enjoy it.”
