Interview

“Never give up”

Thomas Bell certainly ‘enjoyed’ a baptism of fire on his 2019 Dakar debut. But despite rolling in the dunes, colliding with a boulder, and spending two nights in the desert, he faced the slings and arrows of the world's toughest rally head on, showing great perseverance and tenacity to come home in 48th place. With the Dakar moving just over the border to Saudi Arabia in 2020, it became much closer to home for the Dubai based Brit and again Thomas Bell managed to ‘win a finish’ despite all that the Dakar could throw at him. Then, post 2020 Dakar, as the pandemic gripped the world, alignments were made with South Racing to partner for Dakar 2021. Whilst not competing, Thomas provided logistics and service support to Scott Abraham and his team which lead onto a formal partnership with South Racing Middle East for the Gulf region with the acquisition of Sabertooth Motoring Adventure in the process. Now, with several FIA events and selected rounds of the South African Cross-Country Series under their belts, Thomas and his new co-driver Bruno Jacomy are looking forward to giving it their all aboard their new 2022 South Racing Works Can Am.

B.J.: “I was contacted by Tom back in September 2021 to do some tests in Dubai and from there everything flowed very naturally and we became good friends inside and outside the car. We began to compete internationally with Dakar 2022 as our main goal! Now we are getting closer and closer to departure from Jeddah to do more than 8000kms together. Surely, as always, it will be an unforgettable adventure. We have a clear objective, and the experience of several races together has prepared us for the big event. Any competition keeps you on the ledge constantly and I feel like we are capable of handling those situations with a clear mind and a positive spirit!”
