Like in his previous Dakars, in 2015 and 2018, Guillaume Martens enters the rally in the Original by Motul class: without any assistance. Both times he had to withdraw after a series of problems, but the Dutchman refuses to give in.
“For me there’s only one way to do the Dakar: on your own, without support. That’s the real adventure and that is what attracts me. I’ve always been into adventures and unknown territories. I work as a consultant for digital products in Switzerland, but I came there as a river rafting guide, 25 years ago. You start something and have no clue where it ends. In the Dakar it’s the same, although last year was a bit too much of adventure and I had to withdraw because I was simply exhausted after going on for days in a row. So I have some unfinished business in Peru. The adventure is not done yet.”
