The Chilean set the fourth fastest time in the special and remains in contention for victory, in fifth place overall, going into the rest day.

"Today was tough but rather good. We set a decent pace from the beginning, even though some places were hard to navigate. For example, it was difficult to see the track in the wadis. The stage was nice, fast and full of dunes. I pushed hard to catch the guys in front in the closing kilometres and then I eased up. The gaps are tight and we need more days to try and make up time and control the race."
