Today, Brock Heger could have won his 3rd stage on the Dakar were it not for a 7-minute penalty he received for speeding. In spite of this, he finished 2nd on the day’s special, 1’11’’ behind ‘Chaleco’ Lopez and continues to feature on the podium for a tenth time in ten days of racing since the prologue. The American is the only competitor in all the categories who has displayed the require consistency to shine in the rally-raid discipline, on his very first attempt.
“Today was good. We got off to a good start. We passed the guy that turned in front of us, so we were the first car on the road in our class. It was a super fast day. Here, towards the end, the navigation got pretty tricky, but Max crushed it with getting back on track. Overall, it was a good day. I don’t know how we ended up, but I think we’re good enough, so we’re very happy with it. Hopefully we can just keep it up, one stage at a time. I’m just looking forward to finishing. Normally, for me, in America, we race for one day and then at the end of the day we know how we did and that’s it. Here, it’s been a drawn-out thing and there are still some more days ahead of us, a lot of kilometres still to cover but we’re super happy at the moment and hopefully we can keep it going”.
