Having clinched a stage victory before the rest day, the French rider faced the arduous task of opening the road but still clocked the second-fastest time in the special, also pocketing all the time bonuses.

"It was a good day. I opened all day and really did my best to try to be fast. It was not easy. The navigation was really tricky at the beginning. We had a lot of dunes at the end. I had to open the gaps and try to be consistent."
