RALLY GP | First time for Santolino!
Lorenzo Santolino has won the day’s special by 1’21’’ in front of Bradley Cox and 4’01’’ ahead of Ricky Brabec. The Spaniard has picked up his first stage victory on the Dakar and the 6th for Sherco since Mickael Metge tasted success in 2019 in Pisco. It is the French brand’s first stage win in Saudi Arabia. It was David Casteu, who is competing again on a bike in this edition to celebrate his 50th birthday, who wrote the first line on Sherco’s roll of honour in 2010 by winning the stage on the Dakar in Cordoba. The champagne is likely to be uncorked today in the brand’s base in Nîmes!
ULTIMATE | Variawa wins his first special
Saood Variawa has done it: at the age of 19 years, the South African has won his first special on the Dakar by 23’’ ahead of Guerlain Chicherit and 45’’ in front of Guillaume de Mévius, both of whom made plenty of ground up on the second half of the special.
CHALLENGER | Cavigliasso wins
Nicolás Cavigliasso was deprived of victory yesterday by 2 seconds due to a penalty, but he has made up for it today. The Argentinean got the upper hand over Paul Spierings in the last 20 km of the special, with the Dutchman finishing 14’’ behind him. Yasir Seaidan finished third, 15’’ behind and Dania Akeel, who led after 202 km, finally completed the stage in fourth, 26’’ behind the winner.
SSV | A first for ‘Chaleco’ and Can-Am
‘Chaleco’ López and Can-Am have beaten the Polaris for the first time on the 2025 edition of the Dakar. The Chilean has won the stage in the SSV category in Al Henakiyah, 3'47’’ ahead of Xavier de Soultrait and 4'12’’ in front of Brock Heger. Alexandre Pinto (13'32’’ behind) and Francisco Alvarez (13'41’’ behind) complete the day’s top 5.
TRUCKS | Loprais wins stage 3
Aleš Loprais has withstood the pressure exerted by Vaidotas Žala all along the 327 kilometres of the special. The Czech driver has beaten the Lithuanian by 53’’ and Mitchel Van Den Brink by 2’07’’. Martin Macík finished the day in fourth, 5’20’’ behind. In the general rankings, Loprais has taken advantage of the time lost by Macík to reduce the gap between the two men to 3’34’’. Žala occupies third place, 34’23’’ behind.
