Having achieved 2nd place on the Dakar last year after his switch to the Ultimate class, Guillaume de Mévius suffered a puncture at the outset on a terrain he was discovering for the first time. The Belgian’s mishap underlines one of the stakes of the following days: punctures. Sébastien Loeb, who saw the Mini driver’s misadventure, was also focused on avoiding such a setback.
“The prologue was not so easy. The region here is not so easy. I’ve never been here before. I know that the Dakar came in 2021 and 2022. There were a lot of bushes, you can see on the bodywork of the car the damage that they did to it, and there were a lot of rocks in the sand. It was not too easy to see them. It’s a first puncture for me, which is not so good, but I prefer to have it now than during the rest of the race”.
