Since the start in AlUla, ten vehicles have been flying the flag for seven cutting-edge alternative motor tech projects on the terrains of the Dakar, tackling daily legs tailored to their capabilities (about 100 km).
A preliminary assessment unfolded at the bivouac in Riyadh on the rest day, featuring the minds behind these vehicles as well as their riders and drivers. It was a chance for everyone to sift through the challenges faced and the fresh ideas that emerged from the Saudi sands.
The race director, David Castera, is both a front-row spectator and the driving force behind this ambitious challenge: "We've adapted the Dakar to discover the vehicles of tomorrow. It's an open-air laboratory. We hope that these solutions will be developed and put into use in the near future. Our goal here is to see a Dakar with nothing but these types of vehicles as soon as possible".
